CES 2026: the year the biggest brands abandoned the booth
At CES 2026 (January 6 to 9, Las Vegas, more than 148,000 attendees per the CTA), the defining exhibit trend was substitution: Google traded a footprint for a takeover of Sphere, Intel wove one visual identity from its keynote through a motion-interactive LED cube to a monorail wrap, and Samsung swapped its vast convention-center footprint for a public exhibition. Meanwhile SCP Packaging won attention with a booth built of recyclable cardboard and wood. Event Marketer’s verdict: less showstoppers, more hidden gems and deep engagement.

Hitachi brought a Zen garden to a construction show. Contrast won the floor.
At CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026 (March 3 to 7, Las Vegas, more than 140,000 construction professionals from 128 countries), Hitachi’s 30,000-square-foot booth stood out by doing the opposite of the floor: a space inspired by Japanese landscaping traditions, including an actual Zen garden, bringing what Event Marketer called a surprising sense of calm to the Festival Grounds. The strategic lesson for exhibitors: on a loud floor, contrast is the cheapest differentiation there is.

One hundred finches, twenty guitars: the room that composes itself
At MAAT in Lisbon (July 8 to August 31, 2026), Céleste Boursier-Mougenot’s from here to ear v.26 fills a gallery with one hundred zebra finches living among roughly twenty amplified electric guitars. As birds land on and leave the strings, they play the room; composition is replaced by chance, movement, and collective behavior. It’s the purest current example of a generative experience with no software in sight, and a masterclass in designing systems rather than content.

VidCon’s show floor is judged by the feed, not the aisle
VidCon 2026 (June 25 to 27, Anaheim, typically about 55,000 attendees) is the trade show where nearly every attendee is a broadcaster, making it the purest stress test of camera-ready booth design. The floor featured an expanded Game Zone with the GorillaCon community space, live podcast recording sets in the open expo hall, a Sport Court for livestreamed creator competitions, and YouTube’s Greenhouse Experience lounge. The design lesson: at creator events, the booth is a set, and it’s judged by how it performs on camera.

The booth trend of 2026 is buttons. Actual, physical buttons.
Event Marketer’s mid-year trade show trends report identifies a clear pattern across 2026 show floors: attendees are pushing back against screen overload and flocking to tactile, analog booth experiences. Documented examples include AARP’s buttons-and-dials AgeTech Collaborative booth at CES, LEGO’s flower carts at Licensing Expo (with exceptional dwell time), Boehringer Ingelheim’s collective mosaic at ASCO, a kinetic sand beach, and wonderMakr’s hands-on specimen "lab" at EMS. The analog booth is out-dwelling the LED wall, and it’s a fabrication story.
